Fencing Practice

We will be at our Indoor Location starting September 15th.

When Thursday evening from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm and Sunday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Where: Indoor Location:
Cambridge War Memorial
1640 Cambridge St.
Cambridge, MA. 02138
617-349-6279

The War Memorial is part of the Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.

To come by bus, take the 69 Bus, which stops almost in front of the door. To come by T, take the Red Line to Harvard and walk, which takes about 10-15 minutes. Just cross Harvard Yard and get onto Cambridge Street.

This map shows where you can park (both green and purple lines are valid parking spaces on Sundays). Street parking is metered, but they do not need to be fed during practice times. On Sundays, non-residents can park in the "resident parking only" areas. We have been given permission to use the parking lot at the Cambridge Ellis School at 80 Trowbridge St, Cambridge, MA 02138, which is within easy walking distance.

Driving directions are at Mapquest.

Who: Anyone over 18 years of age is welcome, whether or not you know how to fence and whether or not you are a member of the SCA. The Carolingian Marshal of Fence is Lilias de Cheryngton; contact her at lilias @ carolingia.org if you have questions about your eligibility.
What to Bring: You should wear comfortable pants and shoes with good traction. Few people have fencing shoes, but any raquet-type sport shoes (raquetball, tennis) work well. Please wear shoes with non-marking soles when we are inside the gym. You should wear socks that adequately cover your lower legs if your pants ride up during fencing movements (no skin may show at any time). Men need to supply their own athletic cup.
We can provide you everything else from our loaner gear. During classes, all our loaner gear will be available. At other times, we may need to know in advance what you need. You may want to bring a water bottle, though both sites have water fountains. Many people also bring a towel and change of clothes for going out to dinner after practice. If you have modern fencing gear you'd like to use, bring it and we'll evaluate it to our safey standards.
Cost: The War Memorial has a $3 fee which must be paid at the door (small bills preferred). Let them know that you are with the SCA. The outdoor location is free.
