The Road to Canterbury

14th Century England

Wat TylerMajor Events

The major events can be summed up fairly concisely: The Black Death (begins 1348), the Hundred Years War  (launched by Edward III in 1337), the Papal Schism (begins 1378, at one point, 3 Popes, No Waiting), the Peasants Revolt (1381, Wat Tyler vs. Richard II), John Wyclif and the Lollard heresy. It was the age of the Black Prince and the Dance of Death. It was also the age of the first great writer in the English language, Geoffrey Chaucer.
